Governance Process Overview

Welcome to the StargateDAO forum!

This is where you will find community discussion, proposals and engagement.

This post aims to highlight our current governance process. All participants must follow this process. That being said, governance is iterative! Over time this may change, and this post will be updated to reflect those changes.

Enjoy the forum!

Governance Process

Outlined below is the StargateDAOs governance process, important governance thresholds and other relevant thoughts and ideas.

Regular process

  • Formulate an idea for a proposal to the DAO.
  • Examples: New network integrations, service provider proposals, technical protocol changes, STG LP positions, etc.
  • Post your proposal in the Stargate forum on Discourse.
  • It is recommended to leave this proposal in the forum for at least 7 days.
  • After 7 days have passed you can update your proposal based on feedback provided in the forum or through other avenues.
  • Once your proposal is finalized it should be left in the forum for another 3 days for final comments.
  • After your feedback period is complete, and there is a positive consensus in the forum, it is time to create a vote on Snapshot.
  • To post a proposal on Snapshot one needs a minimum of 50,000 veSTG.
  • If you do not have this yourself, you should find someone who does and is willing to post for you.
  • Snapshot set up:
  • Set your vote to start 24 hours from when you upload the Snapshot.
  • This is to give time for people to prepare their voting wallets as well as give the community a final 24 hour window in case of any missed comments.
  • Minimum voting period of 3 days, however if you’d like longer to give people time to vote that is fine.
  • For your Snapshot to pass it must reach quorum, which is 1,500,000 veSTG.
  • If your vote fails, you must leave at least 2 weeks before you re-propose.
  • If your vote passes you can approach the Stargate Foundation to implement the governance approved changes.

Fast-track process If your proposal is urgent ie. relates to an important security upgrade for the protocol then you can follow this process instead of the regular process.

  • Post proposal in the DAO forum.
  • Your proposal can then go to a vote after a 12 hour period.
  • Post your Snapshot vote.
  • The voting period for a fast-track proposal is 12 hours.

Quorum, threshold and snapshot length

  • Forum post feedback period: >= 5 days
  • Quorum: 1,500,000 (This quorum may be adjusted in the initial 90 days +/- 20% in order to find the right balance of participation).
  • Proposal threshold: 50,000
  • Snapshot length: >= 3 days
  • Voting differential: >= 70% votes FOR
  • Time before re-proposing in case of a failed Snapshot: >= 14 days

Other

In Discourse you should choose the appropriate category for your post. If it doesn’t fit in anything specific then General is the way to go!

All feedback under a proposal must be related to the proposal in question. Comments unrelated to the original post will be deleted by community moderators.

Proposers that do not follow the approved structure will have their posts locked or taken down depending on the infraction.

I admittedly misread the Governance proposal. I thought we would be using Discord (not Discourse). Sigh. Another channel to try and stay on top of.

This is instead of Commonwealth, not on top of it.

This forum will be the main focus for public communication around governance. You can of course have your more real time convos in discord still, but would recommend questions intended towards proposers go in here as they’re more likely to be seen, responded to and taken into account.

hi @Hazbobo this does not seem to be configurable, it’s automatically set to “4 hours from now”
